Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American dancer, actress and singer since the early 1990s. Early Broadway parts include Wicked Legally Blonde & Hair. The Tony Award was given to Ashford for her performance as Essie Carmichael from You Can't Take It With You. Tony Award-winning actor Annaleigh Ashford has spent her career working alongside renowned actors and directors across stage film and television and she is continuing her award-winning work with several upcoming projects. Ashford will be next in the role of Kumail Nanjiani, as Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It premieres on the 22nd of November. Ashford is currently working on Searchlight Pictures' horror film Dust with Sarah Paulson alongside Ebon and Moss Bachrach. As a Hulu Original, the film will be a part of Disney DTC's platforms. Ashford, who will appear opposite Josh Groban on Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre during the march 2023 revival of Stephensondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail (director) and Jeffrey Seller (producer), exactly the same group that produced Hamilton, will direct the musical. Ashford's latest role was as Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. It is based upon the national scandal which involved Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. Two seasons ago, Ashford was the main character of CBS's hit series B Positive. Also, she was a part of the popular series developed by Marco Pennette Chuck Lorre, that starred the legendary actresses Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo Ben Vereen. No stranger to Broadway Ashford was awarded the Tony Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Awards with her character Essie. Some other Broadway roles for Ashford are Sunday in the Park, with George Wicked legally Blonde, and the role of Lauren In Kinky Boots. For this role, she earned a Tony Award nomination. Ashford lives in Los Angeles & New York. Her birthplace was in Denver and grew up there.
